SCI partner contributes to successful MLK day of service in Lynn

In honor of this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16, the Lynn Community Association organized a day of service event at the Washington Street Baptist Church. Several hundred volunteers showed up to help in a variety of projects, from creating MLK bookmarks for the Lynn Public Library to making bracelets for the United States military. Among the organizations involved was SCI's partner, The Food Project.

The Food Project's youth council, aided by SCI AmeriCorps member Rae Axner, organized a youth-led workshop focusing on racism in today's society. Rae serves as a youth leadership coordinator with the SCI AmeriCorps program - she worked hand in hand with The Food Project's youth council to design and orchestrate the workshop, which provided a space for community conversation and reflection.
