VEAP Updates: January 2023
The SCI Vaccine Equity & Access Program (VEAP) is continuing to work to increase awareness and acceptance of the COVID vaccine and promote equitable access to vaccination locations in our target communities.
We are pleased to see an increase in vaccine uptake in the VEAP communities. For instance, the vaccine dashboard shared by the Department of Public Health during our weekly meeting with partners in Malden shows that the community vaccination rate is now higher than the state average, major progress in a community that was targeted as among the highest need in the state for vaccine equity work.
This fall, SCI was awarded additional funding from Community Catalyst and the CDC to build on our COVID vaccine equity work. We are now also educating our diverse communities about other vaccines, such as the Pneumococcal shot, that are important for good health.
We continue to have openings for part-time community leader outreach positions to help educate about vaccination in our target communities of Everett, Lynn, Malden and Woburn. There’s a particular need for bilingual candidates speaking one or more of our priority languages – Haitian Creole, Portuguese and Spanish.
