Humanly Possible: Celebrating World Immunization Week!

Published by Nicole Porter on

We’re wrapping up the month of April by joining the global community in celebrating World Immunization Week (April 24th-30th)! World Immunization Week, observed annually during the last week of April, unites the world in celebrating the power of vaccines to protect people of all ages. This year’s theme, Humanly Possible, marks 50 years of the World Health Organization’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).

Vaccines are a triumph of human ingenuity. They have saved countless lives and protected millions from debilitating diseases. The EPI program, a global initiative dedicated to ensuring all children have access to life-saving vaccines, has been instrumental in achieving this incredible progress.

But the work continues. Recent events like the COVID-19 pandemic have disrupted vaccination programs worldwide. Millions of children are missing crucial immunizations, putting them at risk of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles, polio, and cholera.

Here’s why World Immunization Week is so important:

  • Vaccines are one of the most effective and affordable public health interventions.
  • Vaccines have the power to eradicate diseases completely.
  • Every child deserves access to these life-saving protections.

Here’s How You Can Get Involved:

  • Spread the word! Share social media assets and use the #HumanlyPossible hashtag to raise awareness within your community.
  • Educate yourself! Visit websites like UNICEF, WHO, or Gavi the Vaccine Alliance for more information about immunization efforts.
  • Get involved! Learn about events and projects happening around World Immunization Week and beyond.
