Coach a Soccer Team This Fall!

Soccer team

Hill House is looking for fun, passionate and child-centered soccer coaches to lead or assist one of our teams in their league this fall. Hill House is a non-profit community center with a strong athletics department and has provided quality programs for the children of Boston's families for over 50 years. With an iconic soccer location on the Esplanade and some strong coaches, the soccer program keeps growing in popularity.

Volunteers should have experience working with children and preferably in a soccer coaching environment. The aim will always be to ensure a fun, safe and instructional environment. Please indicate your preference for age groups to work with and include a short bio on your soccer background and any volunteering/working with children.

Programs will start on Tuesday September 5th and scheduled to finish on Saturday November 11th, depending on the weather.

Help Set Up Children's Cancer 5K

Cute kid

Help the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation set-up our 5K on September 9th. We need volunteers to help set-up table, chairs and decorate for our run that will happen that evening! This is a great opportunity to give back and we welcome groups!

Set-up will take place at Christian Herter Park (off of Solider's Field in Brighton) at 11:30am.

The event raises funds to help find a cure for pediatric brain tumors and cancers!

If interested, please email Brittaney at Bshade@curethekids.org or sign up at this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c49a8a62fabfc1-2017.

Meet SCI's Newest Staff Member: Amelia Walters

Photo of Amelia Walters

Meet SCI's newest staff member, Amelia Walters! She will be taking on the role of SCI AmeriCorps Program Manager for the upcoming year. Amelia graduated from Franklin Pierce University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science. Throughout her college career she discovered many service opportunities, including coordinating two Alternative Spring Break trips to conduct projects with Habitat for Humanity. She met many AmeriCorps members along the way and knew that's what she wanted to do once she graduated.

After graduation, Amelia went on to serve two years as an AmeriCorps member, one with AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the second with SCI. With the AmeriCorps Cape Cod program Amelia served in Barnstable, focusing on environmental education, disaster preparedness and community engagement. With SCI AmeriCorps, she served as the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at the Hockomock Area YMCA.Read more

Help SCI Raise $1625 by Friday night!

The last Chelsea #WalkWednesday of the season included some zumba dancing!

Want an easy way to strengthen local communities before a relaxing 4th of July weekend? Donate today to help SCI reach our $5,000 fundraising goal before our June 30 budget year ends! We have just $1,625 to go--maybe even less by the time you read this blog post!

You can go on vacation after you donate to SCI. You can even donate to SCI while you are on vacation! Our SCI team will find some vacation time over the summer but we will be very busy here getting ready for the fall.

During the summer, we will be working on filling our remaining AmeriCorps positions. If you know someone who might be interested in a year of SCI AmeriCorps service, please share this link so they can learn more and apply.

SCI’s AmeriCorps program is supported by a federal grant that requires a dollar-for-dollar private match. Every dollar you donate to SCI helps leverage one dollar of federal funding to support AmeriCorps members serving our communities.Read more
