2025 SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest | Meet the Teams: 4 Kids By Kids Team Goal: “To expand our program into a school-year program where kids will be helped outside of the summer, and to grow the program into other libraries and such.”

The 4KBK team plans to grow their tutoring program that educates kids and creates long-lasting bonds with tutors to enhance social skills and learning. Their goal is to expand their program into a school-year program where kids will be helped outside of the summer, and to grow the program into other libraries.

4 Kids By Kids is a first-time team.

Their coach Kristen Risley is a returning Pitch Coach and is a seasoned project manager with international, regional, and local project management experience. She has worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for 8 years managing the Medicaid contract and uses her professional experience to help build skills and competence in the community.

Kristen noted that her previous experiences supporting youth have motivated her to support the Youth Grant Pitch Contest. “I continue to want to be involved in improving my local community,” she shared. Last year, Kristen was a coach for Inclusive Eats (Woburn) who was awarded $1,700 in 2024 for a series of cultural cooking classes.

Another coach for the team is Magnus Mammy, also a returning Pitch Coach. He is a self-motivated problem solver who works well individually and cross-functionally. A trusted advisor, he is a hands-on sales management professional with a track record of achieving tactical and strategic goals. Magnus currently works as a Co-Founder of Sembe LLC.

Magnus volunteered as a Pitch Coach last year for The Greater Love Tabernacle Youth Ministry (Dorchester), and they won $1,000 in 2024 for a community cookout and back-to-school supplies. Magnus shared that he is “looking to do the same this year.”

The goal of SCI’s Pitch Contest is to provide youth with the opportunity to decide how to strengthen their community while practicing valuable professional skills such as public speaking, project management, and community organizing. With the guidance and support of 2 volunteer Pitch Coaches, each youth team will develop their project ideas and be in the driver’s seat of positive change.

The Pitch program will culminate on April 5th, when SCI will host the in-person Pitch Event at La Colaborativa where each team has the chance to receive up to $2,000 in grant funding. Media are invited to attend the Pitch Event. Funded youth teams will have until January 2026 to complete their respective projects and submit a project impact report.

This program is made possible by SCI’s sponsors, individual donors, and a Massachusetts state budget line item, thanks to the advocacy of State Senator Cindy Friedman. The 2025 SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is sponsored by Boston Bridges Initiative; The Boston Foundation; Winning Home, Inc.; M&T Bank; Berkshire Bank; Benefact4; and Kick It for a Cause. Major support for SCI youth programming is provided by Cummings Properties. The SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is supported by the service of an SCI AmeriCorps member. Social Capital Inc. is a proud member of the Massachusetts Service Alliance / AmeriCorps Network.
