Social Capital Forum a Crowd Pleaser

On May 3, SCI hosted its first ever Social Capital Forum on how civic engagement can actually boost the economy! Peter Levine, Director of CIRCLE at Tufts University, presented the leading research linking high levels of civic health to lower unemployment rates. His presentation was followed by an engaging panel discussion led by Mayor Curtatone of Somerville, Milagros Arbaje-Thomas (Director of Mattapan Family Service Center) and Saritin Rizzuto (Community Relations and Business Development Officer at Metro Credit Union). The forum concluded with small group discussions in which attendees got the chance to delve deeper into the topics discussed during the presentations. Lots of great information, discussion and new ideas came out of this forum and SCI is looking forward to the next one. If you have an idea for a topic for our next forum, please let us know in the comment section below!
