Greater Love Tabernacle Youth Ministry - Greater Love Tabernacle Church, Dorchester
The Greater Love Tabernacle Youth Ministry YGPC will used their $1,000 award to develop a back-to-school kickoff cookout conference for inner-city youth that focuses on providing a safe space, promoting positive mental health, and promoting anti-bullying. The Back to School Youth Jam was held on August 31st. It was a free event for the local community where families and youth can eat free food, engage in fun activities organized activities, youth showcase, and ultimately develop/learn coping skills to encourage strong overall mental health.
The safe tent was very popular as the youth were able to understand the use of fidgets and understand the harmful effects of bullying. The youth entered into a raffle by filling out a piece of paper and indicating how they can show kindness to their peers.
The team shared, “We had a great team of adults supporting the project implementation alongside the youth who provided great ideas and input. Kids left with smiling faces and were given resources to help them prepare for a successful school year.”
As part of this project, the youth learned communication skills, writing skills, marketing skills, event planning, and how to effectively present in front of others that they did not know, as well as what grants are and how they can used to support a need within their community!
