You don’t have to wait until #GivingTuesday to help SCI bring diverse people together to make a difference. Help us get a head start toward reaching our year-end fundraising goal of raising $12,500 by making a tax deductible donation today!
SCI will definitely be participating in the recently established tradition of designating the first Tuesday in December as #GivingTuesday.
But we are in the middle of an important social capital building week, so this would also be a great time to support SCI.
This past weekend, 45 Lynn teens gathered for the annual Harmony Among Lynn Teens event (HALT). SCI AmeriCorps member Liandra Reyes and the Girls Inc. teen leaders she supports played a key role in planning the HALT event that helps Lynn teens develop skills and make healthy choices for themselves.
Throughout the week, SCI AmeriCorps members recruited volunteers to support Boston teens at several locations throughout the city; while other members ran youth leadership groups focused on helping young people develop healthy habits.
50 volunteers spent their Veterans Day raking leaves for Woburn seniors in need. This Saturday SCI AmeriCorps member, Jenna Francis, will be coordinating another group to take care of the rest of the seniors who need help with yardwork before the snow hits.
Declining social capital means, among other things, more and more seniors find themselves isolated in their homes, without support from families or neighbors. One elderly couple, with their family living far away, reports that they will now be able to stay in their home longer thanks to yardwork and shoveling they receive through the SCI Woburn Volunteers for Seniors program.
Your support of SCI this week helps SCI develop young leaders and provide isolated seniors the support they need.
We will be busy building social capital this week; but that work will certainly continue in December! So if you would like to join us for #GivingTuesday on December 3rd, or some time later in the month, we are grateful for your support.
Stay tuned via email and the SCI Facebook page for updates on our #GivingTuesday and year-end campaign updates. Meanwhile, I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Thank you for your support and consideration!
