Support the SCI AmeriCorps Program

Published by Social Capital Inc. on

As we approach the end of 2019, SCI will be sharing several ways your tax-deductible donations can make a difference. Today we focus on the impact of donations supporting the SCI AmeriCorps program.

Your tax-deductible donation goes a long way when you support the SCI AmeriCorps program!

  • 27 full-time SCI AmeriCorps members recruited 1,310 volunteers during the past year.
  • The members and the volunteers they recruited provided our communities with 57,492 hours of service. That volunteer time is valued at over $1.8 million dollars!
  • The SCI AmeriCorps Youth Leadership team focuses on training teens to address problems in the community such as preventing substance abuse and promoting healthy eating habits.
  • 215 teens from Boston, Lynn, Milford and Woburn developed leadership skills through the support of SCI AmeriCorps members.

Every dollar donated leverages federal funding

SCI has a federal grant through the Massachusetts Service Alliance which supports our AmeriCorps program. This grant requires every federal dollar be matched with a dollar of private funding. Thus, for every dollar you donate today to support the SCI AmeriCorps program, you generate an equal amount of federal funding.

Donate to support the SCI AmeriCorps program and you are doubling the impact of your charitable contribution!

Support today has a lasting impact!

The SCI AmeriCorps program places members in positions where they have significant responsibilities with our nonprofit host site partners. The experience and training SCI AmeriCorps gain through their year of service positions them for leadership roles within the sector. A few examples:

  • Jennifer Ward has led the Milford Youth Center as its Director for over three years. She started there as an SCI AmeriCorps Youth Leadership Coordinator ten years ago.
  • Helen Murphy serves as a Special Projects Coordinator for the Fenway CDC, building on the role she played a Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at the agency.
  • The James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club has two key staff positions filled by SCI AmeriCorps members–Megan Gambale is their Assistant Executive Director and Katie Sullivan recently transition from her SCI AmeriCorps position to the Club’s Teen Director.

Grooming future leaders of Boston area nonprofit organizations is critical as many current managers reach retirement age. Your support of the SCI AmeriCorps program will help launch energetic and talented young adults into nonprofit careers, having a lasting impact while making a significant difference through their service right away.

As 2019 draws to a close, I hope that you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to SCI; your support of the SCI AmeriCorps program will make a tremendous difference in 2020 and beyond.

Thank you for your consideration. Best wishes for a happy holiday season!
