SCI Network Technology Associate Position Description

SCI's mission is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. SCI helps community organizations develop the skills and tools needed to engage citizens to make a difference, with a priority on promoting youth success and healthy communities.

SCI has dynamic community web portals for many communities across Massachusetts, using the open source content management system, Drupal, to provide community members with a searchable database of local services and the latest social networking tools to connect with neighbors and local organizations.

We are creating a new part-time staff position to help us respond to the growing demand for this portal tool. The position provides a great opportunity for someone passionate about using technology to make a difference to demonstrate and further develop their skills. This position is an excellent opportunity for a college or grad student, or others seeking part-time work to build their skills and make a difference.

Network Technology Associate will be a part-time SCI staff position starting in September 2015 with the following responsibilities:

  • Respond to technical assistance needs from SCI AmeriCorps members and community partners that manage SCI Web Portals.

  • Assist with the development of new community portals, including attending meetings with community partners and helping with the build-out and customization of the SCI portal to meet the unique needs of the community.

  • Perform administration functions on SCI’s Drupal Based community websites. This includes the back up and archiving of SQL Databases and website data, as well as installation of updated modules and other typical maintenance tasks for the CMS.

  • Monitor space and bandwidth usage of websites and develop a plan for managing resource usage to best optimize use.

  • Generate documentation and user support material for the web portals. 

Requirements:

  • Passion for using technology to help strengthen communities and address community needs.

  • Strong website management skills. Must have experience writing HTML and a familiarity with CSS, PHP, and other scripting a plus. Experience with Drupal a plus.

  • Ability to adapt to changing client needs in regards to form and function. Must have the ability to communicate about technology with non-tech-familiar individuals.

  • Experience with PHP based websites that use SQL for data storage.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and follow up

    with workgroup regarding goals and accomplishments.

  • Available to work up to 10 hours/week initially. Flexibility to take on more hours as projects develop a plus. Starting pay range $15 to $18/hour depending on experience.

  • High School Diploma, College coursework in related areas a plus. AmeriCorps service or other significant volunteer experience a significant asset.
