Grant Awarded for Healthy Chelsea Portal

SCI will be developing a web portal to support goals of Healthy Chelsea.
SCI Press Release

SCI is pleased to announce that we have received a grant of $25,000 from the Cabot Family Charitable Trust to adapt our community web portal to support the goals of the Healthy Chelsea Coalition. We will be hiring a part-time Community Connector to play a key role implementing this grant.

Based in the Community Health Improvement Team of MGH’s Chelsea HealthCare Center, Healthy Chelsea was formed to address the need to promote community wellness, with a focus on improving the environmental and social conditions of Chelsea neighborhoods to make healthy eating and physical activity a daily reality for Chelsea residents. Ultimately, the Coalition aims to reduce obesity and prevent obesity-related diseases.

SCI and Healthy Chelsea have developed a partnership based on our shared commitment to leveraging social networks to promote good health outcomes, building upon the evidence that social networks have a profound influence on our health. The Healthy Chelsea web portal will address the need for a web resource that helps make better use of the available resources to support healthy eating and active living goals. SCI has implemented local web portals in 6 other communities, serving as a vital resource connecting residents to community events and services. For instance, over 10,000 Dorchester residents visit the MyDorchester.org site each month, implemented in partnership with the Codman Square Health Center and Dorchester House.
