Healthy Chelsea Coalition

Chelsea is a recent addition to SCI’s community network, as health and wellness group Healthy Chelsea Coalition (based at MGH Chelsea) has become a partner. An SCI-built a community web portal, made possible by a grant from the Cabot Family Charitable Trust, will serve as a community resource for Chelsea, as citizens will be able to connect regarding physical health and fitness, and also build relationships necessary to combat isolation and depression.  SCI’s collaboration with Healthy Chelsea began with training the Youth Food Movement teens on strategic communication & social media.
  • SCI is providing support, including a bi-lingual community connector, for outreach and facilitation of use of the web portal by Chelsea citizens.
  • SCI is working with a new group called the Community Health Leaders of Chelsea to improve community health among Chelsea neighborhoods. Other partners of the program include Walk Boston, The Neighborhood Developers, Healthy Chelsea, and Chelsea Public Schools. The initiative is made possible by a grant from the Vela Foundation.

Chelsea is one of four communities included in the Winnisimmet Regional Opioid Collaborative (WROC), SCI's newest partner. The coalition also serves Winthrop, Revere, and Saugus. SCI is in the process of developing a community web portal intended to provide information to the general community as a catalyst to prevent prescription drug misuse in these communities. The user-friendly portal will streamline national, state, and local information and will create an access point providing education, awareness, intervention, treatment and recovery related materials regarding substance use disorder.
