Happy Leap Day! I hope you're putting the extra day to good use. We thought it would be a good time to share some highlights of what we have been doing here at SCI, and to call your attention to two upcoming ways you can support our programs-the first annual SCI Social Capitalist Luncheon on April 9 and shopping for Social Capital on March 4. Please consider joining us!

    Social Capitalist Luncheon April 9

Please join us for the first annual SCI Social Capitalist Luncheon on April 9! This exciting new event will raise awareness of SCI's success by recognizing individuals who exemplify its mission. Major sponsors to date include the Boston Globe and Goulston & Storrs - click here for the full sponsor list and to find out how you can be added! Ticket information can be found here.

    SCI 2.0 Creating a Buzz

SCI's efforts to implement Web 2.0 technology to connect citizens to civic information has been creating quite a buzz lately! SCI is featured in today's edition of Mass. High Tech: The Journal of New England Technology. Click here to read the article!

Last month, the Museum of Science hosted a very interesting "Civic Networking Strategy Session" that engaged a diverse group of leaders in discussing SCI's use of technology and our strategy for growth. We also presented at the Digital Government Summit and to the Mass.gov Portal User Group. The SCI community web portal tool is a key element of our Network Communities replication plan.

Shop for Social Capital @ Whole Foods

Grocery shop to help SCI! A few days a year, Whole Foods supports a local non-profit by donating a percentage of their sales to help fundraising efforts. On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, SCI will receive 5% of Whole Foods Woburn's sales. Stock up the cupboards and shop 'til you drop to help SCI continue to support the community! Proceeds support SCI and the 2008 WorldFest Woburn. Store hours are 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. If you haven't checked out Whole Foods yet, this is a great time to do so! Whole Foods Market Woburn is located at 400 Cambridge Road.

    Safe Love Dorchester

The SCI Dorchester Youth Council celebrated Valentine's Day by organizing the 4th annual Safe Love Dance and Health Fair. This youth-led and initiated event connected teens with public health services and opportunities focused on various issues such as teen empowerment, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, and other aspects of healthy behavior. This year the theme of the event was "Respect Yourself, Check Yourself" and over 300 youth attended this event at the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center. For more information, click here.

    New Woburn CoffeeHouse

SCI Woburn is coordinating a new community arts collaborative that has launched a new Woburn CoffeeHouse. The CoffeeHouse is hosted at the North Suburban Family YMCA every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. Come check it out, and share your talents at the open mike!
