Here are Some Things We're Currently Working On!

Girls Inc. of Lynn's Part of the Solution campaign, in association with SCI's own Tosha Duester, has been involved with a project to show the Lynn community what drug paraphernalia is being sold in their stores.  Along with another Girls Inc. program, POS put together a presentation that they performed for the Lynn Board of Health in October.  They did such a great job that they were asked to give another performance in November.

One of the big events, SCI's Deborah Orlando, who has been serving with the United Neighbors of Fall River, has a part in planning is The Peace by Piece Summit. This year is the second year for the summit. The purpose of the Summit is to promote peace within the city and get people involved. This event will occur in March.

Shea Pugh, an AmeriCorps Member with SCI is also working with the YMCA this year.  She is currently in the midst of launching a new youth group called the "Y Leaders Club."  The new club is free for teens ages 13-18 years old.  Y Leaders is a teen run club with a focus on developing leadership and social skills while participating in service learning in a fun environment.  In the club teens will have the opportunity to plan projects in the YMCA community and in their own community based on their interests.  Y Leaders Club advisers are also available to the club for advice and recommendations as needed.

The main event that the SCI Dorchester team working with Dotwell is currently working on is running a Toys for Tots event at the Codman Square Health Center. This event will serve to give out 600 gifts to families of patients of the Health Center. The team there will be responsible for collecting requests from families, wrapping the presents, and organizing the event where they will both hand out gifts and provide entertainment for the families.
