Birthday Wishes Seeking Party Box Drivers

The mission of Birthday Wishes is to provide birthday parties for homeless children. Birthday Wishes believes that children, regardless of their living situation, should celebrate their birthday joyfully, surrounded by family, friends, and others who care. Birthday Wishes is seeking volunteers to bring a party to children in a homeless shelter in the South Shore of Massachusetts. Hanover Birthday Wishes is seeking someone who can make deliveries of Birthday in a Box, which provides everything needed for a party for a homeless child, and/or on-site parties. Walking Tour of Franklin Park

When: Wednesday, July 2 from 6 - 8 pm

Where: Begins at Shattuck Picnic Grove, Circuit Drive & Forest Hills Drive, Boston, MA 02121

 

On Wednesday, July 2nd a National Park Service ranger from Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site will be conducting a guided walk of Franklin Park entitled “Country in the City”. The event will be held rain or shine and is free and open to the public. No advance reservations are necessary. Participants will be be able to learn about Olmsted’s vision for Franklin Park as they visit the landscapes of Scarboro Pond, Schoolmaster Hill, the Country Park meadow, and a portion of the Wilderness, including the “99 Steps”. There will be a stop at the location within today’s park where writer and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson lived as a young man. For more information about the tour, please call 617-442-4141.

Open Volunteer Day at the Charles River Conservancy

When: Saturday, July 19 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM

Join the Charles River Conservancy for their open volunteer day. Help them work on the upkeep and preservation of the river and trails surrounding the Charles. Pitch in to help keep the river beautiful! The Charles River Conservancy’s volunteers are engaged year-round, participating in activities including planting daffodil bulbs, painting park benches, removing invasive species, trimming brush, and trash cleanup. If interested in volunteering, please email dms@thecharles.org. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and bring their own water. 

Merrimack Valley Sandbox Summit

Help Landscape a Women's Transitional Home

When: Saturday, June 28

Time: 10 AM to 3 PM

Where: Valentine Transitional Home; 9 Valentine St, Roxbury, MA 02119

This event will involve revamping the exterior landscaping of the women’s transitional home. The women going through the program thoroughly enjoy spending time outside and utilizing their outdoor space, but revamping is necessary for the women to fully enjoy the space. Volunteer duties include, laying down sod, trimming the hedges out front, planting of flowers, putting up a new fence, painting a small porch. To sign up for this event, please click here
