Egleston Holiday Celebration

The Egleston Coalition is hosting a Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting ceremony on Saturday December 7th from 2-4 pm. Some of the activities taking place include, holiday music, caroling, tree lighting, refreshments, a martial arts performance by Shim Gum Do, and much more. The local businesses will be recognized- some have even done festive window displays for the season.

Some of our AmeriCorps members will take the stage. One will wow the audience with a spoken words piece and another will sing some holiday songs. There will be a table for nonprofits, local businesses, and programs to place their materials on, bring your flyers of your organization's upcoming events!

Gift Wrap for a Cause

Shared Inc is dedicated to improving global health for the world's not so fortunate people by increasing the availability of the essentials of good health medicines, medical supplies, medical equipment, and community gardens.

They are looking for volunteers to help raise money to buy medicine and medical supplies for orphanages and rural clinics in Southern Africa by volunteering to gift wrap at Barnes and Noble in the Prudential Center in Boston. Sorting Donations at the Warehouse

The Wish Project is looking for groups or individuals to help at their warehouse. They are looking for volunteers to help with sorting and putting away clothes, linens, homegoods, and furniture. They are also looking for help with individual monthly projects.

In December they host The Magic of Christmas. This event matches families in need with groups that want to sponsor their gifts. The sponsor would receive a family ID to know what should be purchased. Codman Square Holiday Toy Drive

On Saturday December 14 at Noon, Codman Square will be hosting a Holiday Toy Drive. The event will take place at the Great Hall located at 6 Norfolk Street in Dorchester. They are in need of volunteers to help out prior to the event and the day of the event. Some of the volunteer needs are highlighted below:

  • Sort toys by age when the toys arrive
  • Bag toys
  • Decorating event room
  • Registering clients when event starts
  • Distribution of gifts, food, and drink

Saturday of Service/MLK Day Orientation

South Coast Serves Logo

South Coast Serves is looking for volunteers to be team leaders and assist 10-20 Middle School students from the Roosevelt Middle School in New Bedford. These students will spend part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day helping out Gifts To Give also located in New Bedford. Gifts to Give is a former textile mill turned warehouse where surplus children's gear is recycled, repurposed, and gifted to children in need. 

On December 7th, South Coast Serves will be hosting their Orientation for those who would like to volunteer for the event and help be a positive role model to these young emerging leaders in the New Bedford area. The Day of Service would not occur until MLK Day on Monday, January 20, 2014.

Meals on Wheels Looking for Drivers

The Meals on Wheels program of the Minuteman Senior Services provides a hot lunch to homebound seniors. Meals are delivered 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, excluding holidays. These meals assist the older adult who is unable to prepare at least one hot nutritious meal a day. In many cases, Meals on Wheels allows the adults to live in the privacy and comfort of their own home. In Woburn, almost 100 meals are delivered daily!

Fall Leaf Raking

The Franklin Park Coalition is teaming up with Northeastern Honor students to help tidy up the woodlands of Franklin Park. Come join them and help rake up some the leaves before winter comes along. Jumping in piles is highly encouraged and all ages are welcome! Bring a rake and gloves if you have them, if not Franklin Park has plenty! As an added bonus, there will be hot chocolate available if it is cold outside, if it is raining the event will be cancelled.

The organization is hosting their Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner for people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones. Thanksgiving is about celebrating the joy of life, community, and friendship.
