Lynn Teens Promoting Healthier Options in Local Stores

Lynn Teens Promoting Healthier Options in Store
Salud America! (2013)

Our SCI AmeriCorps member, Amanda at the Lynn Food and Fitness Alliance has been working with her Youth Council on a healthy cornerstore project. She was contacted  by Salud America!, an organization funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and works to reduce obesity among Latino youth. They were interested in hearing about the work her Lynn teens have been doing.

Amanda's Youth Council members are working hard to promote healthy snacks and make it easier for teens to pick apples over chips.

Lynn Teens Campaign for Healthy Foods

Lynn Teens Campaigning for Healthy Foods at Convenience store
"English Students Campaign for Healthy Foods," by Chris Stevens, The Daily Item (February 8, 2014)

Amanda Rzepkowski is the SCI AmeriCorps member for Lynn Food and Fitness Alliance. During her service she has recruited teens from Lynn English High School for her Lynn Youth Health Alliance. Their goal is to get store owners to agree to not only offer healthy items, but also display them in a prime location in their store. The teens have been working hard to get the convenience stores close to the high school to provide more healthy alternatives for them.
