Open Volunteer Day at the Charles River Conservancy

When: Saturday, July 19 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM

Where: 4 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138


Join the Charles River Conservancy for their open volunteer day. Help them work on the upkeep and preservation of the river and trails surrounding the Charles. Pitch in to help keep the river beautiful! The Charles River Conservancy’s volunteers are engaged year-round, participating in activities including planting daffodil bulbs, painting park benches, removing invasive species, trimming brush, and trash cleanup. If interested in volunteering, please email dms@thecharles.org. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and bring their own water. 

Summer Family Fun Day

When: Saturday, June 28th

Time: 9 AM – 2 PM

Where: Peabody School, 70 Rindge Ave, Cambridge MA 02140


Twice a year in the winter and summer, the Center for Families hosts Family Fun Days. These are family-friendly events that draw anywhere from 200-500 families. The event includes arts & crafts, face painting, an obstacle course, moon bounces, book give-aways, basketball, drums, and a performance. Last summer there was an African drummer and this past winter there was a puppet show.

Volunteers will be needed for a variety of tasks including, helping at the registration table, assisting staff at the arts table, face paint, supervising activities, helping with set-up, serving lunch, assisting the performer, and helping with clean up. Math Tutors Needed for Cambridge Youth

The mission of Tutoring Plus of Cambridge is to support and encourage the academic, personal, and social growth of youth in Cambridge with the help of volunteers and community partners. They have over 200 tutors and mentors spread over 6 different sites, serving more than 170 Cambridge Youth. Tutoring Plus is seeking tutors for their MCAS Math Prep Program.

Volunteers will be matched one-on-one with a student for the 9 week Math Prep Program. This program helps 4th and 5th grade students prepare for and gain confidence when taking the MCAS. Tutoring Plus matches work out of a provided MCAS Math Prep book twice a week, allowing tutors and students to build strong relationships over the course of the program. The program begins Monday March 3rd and ends Wednesday April 30th at the Fletcher Maynard Academy School located at 225 Windsor Street, Cambridge MA 02139.

Volunteer at Center for Families' Family Fun Day

The Center for Families is a family support program that serves families of children ages 0 to 8 in Cambridge. Twice a year the Center for Families hosts Family Fun Days. These are family friendly events that draw anywhere from 200-500 families. The winter Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday, January 25th at the Peabody School, located at 70 Rindge Ave in Cambridge. The event includes an abundance of activities including arts and crafts, face painting, an obstacle course, moon bounce, infant area, book giveaway, basketball, and much more. All families in Cambridge with children ages 0-8 are encouraged to attend!

Help Tutor at Prospect Hill Academy

Join Prospect Hill Academy for after school tutoring. Their program runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 until 5:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for students to receive additional academic support and individualized attention. Prospect Hill Academy is seeking volunteers who can work with students in grades 7 through 12 in Math, Science, Spanish, English, and Social Studies. If you would still like to volunteer, but do not feel comfortable tutoring in these subject, you can help out. You can volunteer to be a supportive "study buddy" helping with organizational strategies and homework help.

Prospect Hill Academy's Upper School Campus is located in the Central Square neighborhood of Cambridge. Their mission is to prepare every student for success in college, inspire a lifelong love of learning, and foster responsible citizenship.

The GLBTQ Domestic Violence Project needs your help!

The GLBTQ Domestic Violence Project assists and supports victims and survivors of domestic violence, focusing on the GLBTQ community, to bring about responsive public policy, and to increase access to culturally competent services.

Volunteers are needed to help with:

  • Tabling at events
  • Marching at pride events
  • Staffing a victim hotline
